WEEE Regulations

Like all UK companies Field View Electrical has to comply with the new WEEE Regulations for disposal of electrical and electronic equipment. We can advise you when to dispose of any white goods such as refrigerators and other electronic equipment.

At the same time we encourage our customers to adopt the more energy efficient solutions by suggesting suitable alternatives if they exist. The obvious is low energy alternative lighting systems and energy efficiency rated white goods. Which save the environment and save you money in the long run.

Energy Efficiency Suggestions

  • Don’t leave electrical appliances on standby using the remote to switch off TVs, DVDs, and PCs which in some cases leaves the appliance running as much as 85% of its full power.

  • If you switch off at the mains or use a modern standby plug board you can reduce the power you use to just a few mW and save money and energy.

  • Tumble dryers are the second biggest power consumers in the modern home. Avoid using the tumble dryer by drying on the washing line or on a clothes horse whenever possible. If you must use your tumble dryer try to make sure that the clothes are as dry as possible by using fast spin oin the washing machine this will minimise the time the dryer is on.

  • Household lighting amounts to 15-25% of the electricity bill and can be reduced considerably by using low energy light bulbs. These are a lot more compact than they used to be and come in different shapes and even have hints of colour in them so they more closely copy the lights that they replace. They may be slightly more expensive but they still save money in the long run. For the same light output they use 25% less energy and last a lot longer than standard light bulbs. These bulbs are most effective where lights are left on for long periods of time not switched off and on.

  • Garden and Solar lighting Most properties have some kind of lighting in the garden. In the bushes or along paths and for safety and security purposes. There are a number of different solar powered lights available for the use in the garden area. These are obviously providing energy free from the sun with no carbon production (other then when manufactured). However they are not particularly bright but last all night. If mains lighting is required for security there are various options that can be used. Low energy lamps can now be fitted to 500W halogen light fittings to replace the standard 500W bulb or you could fit timers, PIRs and dust to dawn sensors to nearly all light fittings.

  • Solar power is now been used for mobile phone chargers, on boats and on caravans for battery chargers so this power can be used in evenings. Also motorway warning signs and in isolated locations where equipment needs energy but with very little power i.e. motorway phones, remote weather stations and water pumping sites.

  • If we all do a little bit in our homes and work places then we can reduce carbon foot print and save money at the same time which is good for the environment and our pockets.
